Leading People is a Sobering Responsibility

Spiritual Authority Requires Spiritual Accountability. Leading people is a sobering responsibility. The Bible says ‘Obey your spiritual leaders and submit to them…continually recognizing their authority over you; for they are constantly keeping watch over your souls and guarding your spiritual welfare, as men who will have to render an account of their trust.’ Heb. 13:17(Ampl.) Many leaders focus on the first part of this scripture…..demanding that people obey and submit to them. However, I find myself drawn to the last…

Leaders Love the Unlovable

Leaders love the unlovable. Leadership is different than friendship. We choose our friends. We don’t always choose the people we lead. In fact leaders often lead people who seem unlovable. People come into our sphere of influence for various reasons, but two reasons are paramount; to bring influence into their lives and to bring their influence into our lives. This often stretches us as leaders. As people come into our sphere of influence our intrinsic leadership nature is to impart…

The Kingdom is Coming….Get Ready!!!

We pray the Lord’s prayer over and over but seldom pray it from God’s perspective. ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’(Matt. 6:9, 10) This beginning of Jesus’ prayer speaks of a ‘kingdom’ that we pray will come. What is this ‘kingdom’ thing we declare to come? What kind of government is this? With this post I begin a series entitled Establishing the Government of…

New Territory Brings a New Level of Leadership

This is my third post regarding three major changes we can expect when we occupy new territory for the Kingdom of God. From previous posts we know that new territory brings a new level of freedom and new provision. The third thing we will experience is a new level of leadership in you and in those who follow. After Joshua and the nation of Israel possessed and settled the new territory of Canaan, we find this conclusive statement, ‘Israel served…

New territory brings new provision

New territory brings new provision. This is my second post describing three aspects of change you can expect as you cross into new territory in 2011. Joshua crossed the Jordan River into Canaan thus fulfilling God’s promise and bringing a new dimension of provision to the nation. We see in Joshua 5 that the entire nation has crossed the Jordan and is camped at Gilgal poised to conquer Jericho. ‘The day after Passover, that very day, they ate some of…

New Land Brings Forth True Freedom in Your Heart

Freedom of the Heart As you lead yourself and others into new territory, three aspects of life will change. We see these reflected as Joshua led his nation into Canaan to possess the land of promise. Today I will address the first change in God ordained new territory. The new land brings forth true freedom in your heart. We see in Joshua 5 that after crossing the Jordan River the nation set up camp and had a circumcision ceremony. Every…

Footprints That Follow You Are the Evidence of Trust In You

Photo by Hu Son Yu -US. Army soldiers stationed in South Korea. Footprints that follow you are the evidence of trust in you. As Joshua stood on the edge of the Jordan River looking across to the land of promise he knew there was opposition on the other side. He also knew the people of Israel supported, undergirded and trusted him to go into that land. They verbalized their trust in Joshua 1:16-18 when they said ‘Whatever you have commanded…

Make the First Footprints in New Territory

Image: Blue Sunset over the Jordan by Ivan Makarov Make the first footprints in new territory. When Joshua and the Israelites completed their 40 year wilderness experience, they stood at the edge of the Jordan River looking across to new territory. It was a territory of promise, provision, and purpose; a land fulfilling the promise given to Abraham for the destiny of a nation, a land of provision in abundance to grow and prosper, a land of purpose to establish…

A King Must Rule From A Secure Place

A king must rule from a secure place. Our hearts determine if we rule as stable, secure leaders or unstable, insecure leaders. Palms 73:1 says “Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” Under the old covenant the Psalmist understood that his relationship with the Father was…

We extend our rule from the center of our territory.

We extend our rule from the center of our territory. The Lord said to Joshua; ‘I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Great Sea on the west.’ There are two elements to ruling territory; people and geography. This statement defined the outer boundaries of the geography that the people of God were…

Ruling Like The King – Stay Within Your Territory

Every king must stick to his assigned territory. The apostle Paul gave us a hint of the meaning of divine territory when he wrote his second letter to the Corinthian church. In regard to being commended for work done in the church he said, ‘We, however, will not boast beyond proper limits, but will confine our boasting to the field God has assigned to us, a field that reaches even to you.’ Every leader in the kingdom of God has…

Know Your Territory

You must know your territory before you can rule your kingdom. As a ‘king’ in the Kingdom, you will never rule your God-ordained territory unless you know the content and boundaries of that territory. Throughout history, kings have ruled territories. Saul, David, Solomon, Hezekiah, Josiah, and many others each ruled a territory; a human and geographic territory. People are the first expression of God-ordained territory. Without people, there is no need for land, no need for order, no need for…
